The Importance of Having A Vision

I was working with a client (and longtime friend) on her book cover yesterday. It’s been a work in progress as we evolve her cover into what she feels is perfect for her. It’s been a process and a give and take. Luckily, we work together beautifully and she’s open-minded to letting me play with other colors to see how those changes work (or don’t)!

Last night after going back and forth and getting some ideas from her late husband (yes, dearly, departed husband – that’s a story for another day), we finally found the perfect cover! It was one of those “TA DA” moments – said with great enthusiasm for a grand effect – you know, arms thrown up and open in a victory send! We were so excited to have wiggled, changed and uniquely used her vision of what her book cover should entail. It was a victorious moment for all of us!

The reason I’m sharing this with you is two-fold. Having a vision is one thing. Being open to seeing to a greater depth (even of color – lol) in your vision is quite another and perhaps even more important! Because I’ve found that while it’s great to have a vision of how something is in your life (insert anything), it’s always good to leave a little wiggle room and to be open to other possibilites. It doesn’t make your vision any less than when you listen and see another’s point of view. You may or may not like it. It may or may not expand yours, but in negating the choice, you are missing out entirely.

Do you know what I mean?

PS If you want to read more about her dearly, departed husband and his antics from the other side, I’ll let you know when the book comes out! It’s a good one!
