I haven’t done a Daily Prompt, but this one caught my eye and oh! what fun this was to look up my name and to see all the different variations of its meaning. If you’re inclined, it’s a fun exercise to do and I highly recommend it!
To be honest, I was never fond of my first name as it felt different. Learning cursive wayyy back in second grade, I was the last person to learn how to write her name properly because of the “Y” not being a common first letter of a first name. I haven’t met many people with my name over the years either. I think what annoys me most is the mispronunciation of my name. The Y sounds like a long E instead of a yuh sound. I’ve only known the French pronunciation, so to hear it otherwise is like scratching a chalkboard with fingernails! Also, interestingly enough, my parents found my name on a tombstone and liked it so that’s how I got my name. Strange, huh?
How did you get yours? Do you know? Have you looked yours up yet? Here’s mine:
“Yvonne is a baby girl name of French origin. Derived from the French names Yvon, Yves, and Ivo, Yvonne means “yew.” Renowned for their strength and being one of the longest-living trees in the world, yews are tall enchanting trees native to Europe, Africa, and Asia. Decorated by delicate green leaves and blood-red wildflowers, yews are one-of-a-kind in every shape and form. With the name Yvonne, the baby can be inspired by nature’s beauty each and every day.
Hebrew: Gift or Grace of God
Scandinavian: Warrior
French/Old German “Yew wood” or “Archer”
Yvonne: You have a strong need for freedom – physical, mental and spiritual. You hate bondage in any form. You have love of beauty and philosophy, and you desire achievement. You are willing to take spiritual matters on faith instead of subjecting them to mental analysis. You are inventive, intuitive and extremely methodical. Since your will is so strong, you are hard to convince. You love beauty and philosophy, and you desire achievement. You have a strong need for freedom – physical, mental and spiritual. You are seeking freedom, opportunities to enjoy life: to make love, to go places and to do things. You are very adventurous and willing to take risk to achieve your objectives. New ways and new experiences can’t satisfy your restless nature. One adventure leads you to another. You are honest and fair, because you know that this is the only way to receive justice and honesty from other people. But your personal growth is vital for you, and it is difficult to be tied down by rules and obligations. Your restless spirit might best controlled by choosing the field of work that meet your demand for action and adventure.”
Well, that was pretty interesting! Take a moment to google your name and see what pops up! You might be surprised like me too! I’d love to hear your results so please pass them along!
