While scrolling through instagram last night, this clip found me, so my gratitude goes out to Tony Robbins. I love when messages and lessons come with divine timing to help me with the life lessons that pop in on a daily basis. This one was so profound to me that I felt sharing it directly would benefit us all.
Because we’re in the holiday season now – full swing – and expectations are high! I’m also finding the pain quotient is here as well – intentionally or unintentionally – people are getting hurt because their expectations aren’t met and to me, that’s heartbreaking, but also a good life lesson.
How many times have you heard the phrases Let Go, Surrender, It is what it is, The choice is yours, etc. and thought you were doing a good job of it until wham! You get knocked out by a friend or family member who needs to ‘tell you how they feel’ and the bizarre piece is that they’re hurt by you and it was unintentional on your part.
Why? Because you fell short of their expectations.
This works the other way around too, my friends. Often your pain comes from your expectations not being met the way you want them to be. Hmmm…the shoe is on the other foot now. Can you see the other person’s point of view? Can you see yours? Be the observer and see the whole scenario? I’ll bet it changes up the story you’ve made in your head about it, doesn’t it?
My suggestion a la this Tony Robbins’ clip? No expectations. Just go with the flow. I don’t mean to allow yourself to get stepped on, but don’t expect the Royal Treatment. If others aren’t nice, excuse yourself. If you want a painfree holiday, here’s the secret – go with the flow. People are going to make their own free will choices and you don’t control any of it. So, let it be. Surrender. Allow and you do your own thing. Be cognizant of others, but don’t take on any pain. You are responsible for yourself. Be kind and caring and don’t take any of it personally. That’s the key in all of this holiday hoopla.
Just be you! No expectations – just simple peace, love and joy! Let’s change it up this year and see how this simple mindset shift makes all the difference!
