When In Doubt, Humor It Is!

Allow me to paint you the scenario and tell you a little story…my sister showed up at my open heart surgery wearing the above t-shirt, big red heart-shaped glasses and a cowboy hat. To tell you that I burst into a fit of giggles upon seeing her is an understatement. She knew I was worried about my 18th surgery and in true Sissy fashion, she went above and beyond! She kept me smiling and laughing so I didn’t have time to be sad or scared or…alone.

We’ve learned a lot over the years about how to find the giggles when needed. We’ve been through a lot and we’re still best friends. That’s been the biggest blessing for me and my gratitude is overflowing.

The crux of this post is that even when life throws curveballs, we have choices. We may not have a choice (ie: I had to have the surgery or I would have died), but we do have a choice in how we look at the situation. That piece and peace are always in your control.

I saw one of my doctors yesterday who called me the energizer bunny because when she asked what I had been up to, I told her about the open heart surgery. We laughed that I’m like a cat with 9 lives…but I’ve used up a few of them. She even went so far as to say that there’s a good reason I’m still here and I had to agree. That’s how I feel as well. I have more to do, more people to connect with and a world to inspire.

“Just hold my hand and I can do anything” has been how I’ve lived my life. That’s why I encourage you to reach out and hold my hand so that I can be there for you too. I know how hard life lessons can be and we’re all in this together. We need to support each other, share our stories, and inspire everyone else. Because if I can make it through breast cancer and open heart surgery and chronic illness, then you’ve got a path to follow and someone who will help you along the way – Me!

Reach out and hold my hand!

  1. Our attitude is everything. We don’t have control about most situations but we can control over our response to them. Sisters are truly a gift. Glad she was by your side during this difficult time.
